CommonHouse is a community of disciple-making believers who radiate the light of Jesus in Athens Co. and beyond through gathered worship, scattered service, and meaningful connection by striving to be a church on purpose.

Our Five Common Purposes:
The purpose of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Thus, as we strive to be a church on purpose here at CommonHouse, we must seek to be intentional about how we plan to reach our God-given potential. These five purposes help us to share a common road map in our collective journey of faithful disciple-making.
1. To Worship the Lord
Everything we do must begin and end in worship to the Lord (John 4:23-24). He is the reason we gather (Colossians 3:16), the reason we serve others (Matthew 28:19-20), and the only One who gives us purpose (2 Peter 1:3-5).
Our ultimate common purpose must be to worship God and see others come to do the same (Romans 12:1-2)!
2. To Make Much of Jesus and Share His Grace
They will know we are Christians by our love (John 13:35). When we are truly worshiping God, we are made more like Jesus and are under the obligation to live in accordance to the way in which He modeled for us (John 13:13-17).
Our common purpose must be to demonstrate who Jesus is to all people we encounter (Ephesians 5:1-2).
3. To Study and Apply the Word of God
The Bible is our living and active source for following God’s purpose for us in this life (Hebrews 4:12). It is useful in our teaching, training, rebuking, and correcting as we strive to worship God and live like Jesus (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Our common purpose must be to regularly study the Bible and strive to actually do what it tells us to do (James 1:22).
4. To Meet People Where They Are
The overarching narrative of Scripture is that of God redeeming His people to Himself (Isaiah 44:22). We serve a missionary God whose desire is for all people to be saved (Acts 13:47). Thus, His Church is called to go out into the world around us and preach the Good News (Mark 16:15).
Our common purpose must be to live out the call of Jesus by finding common ground with all people in order to share the message of the gospel (1 Corinthians 9:20-22).
5. To Share Our Resources for the Betterment of Our Community
God has blessed us with a unique space that does not reflect a typical church building. He has blessed us with financial resources to be able to discover and pursue new forms of ministry to serve others. He has blessed us with a wide generational mix of people who are willingly eager to contribute toward the cause Christ has called us to and for which we’ve each been individually equipped.
Our common purpose must be to steward God’s blessings well and to return them back to Him in order to make our community better so that others may come to worship God and join us in our mission.

The Church of God (Anderson, Indiana) is a global movement of people seeking to fulfill God’s mission in the world. We’re committed to studying the Word of God and faithfully living it out. We’re committed to the mission that Jesus Christ gave every believer: to make disciples of all nations (Matt 28:18–20).
You will find a great diversity of convictions and practices within the Church of God. We share a common story of faith, growing together into the fullness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13). We worship and serve as citizens of God’s kingdom. We celebrate our life in Christ and accept our call to be the body of Christ in our world—all to the glory of God.

Our Pastor

Pastor Seth Brisker was raised in Circleville, OH and grew up in a Methodist Church. He felt the call to ministry from an early age as a Middle Schooler but spent his High School years pursuing his own plans and desires. It was not until a revival service during his first semester at Ohio Christian University that Seth surrendered his life fully over to the call God had placed on him. While attending college, Seth met Kelsey and the two began to serve in music ministry together and built their relationship around serving the church. Seth and Kelsey got married in 2015 and have strived to use their marriage for the glory of God. Together, they have two children. The Briskers moved to Athens County in 2021 and Seth became the pastor of New Beginnings Church (Athens First Church of God) on April 2, 2023. Since that time, Pastor Seth has led the church through various stages of updates, including changing the name to CommonHouse, in order to prepare for the new season of ministry God has called us to.
